Art Film Project: Here's Something I Really Care About

Click here to see the project
Why do I do all these crazy things? Why do I write blogs, host parties, help people start businesses, help people manage their social media, teach people about nutrition and health, hang out at restaurants doing surveys?? What keeps me going, what drives me?

Here's my big WHY: Mark and I have a vision to open peoples' eyes to realize their potential, to see God in the beauty around them -- to make beautiful art films which draw people to God.

Our upcoming film is called "The Gateway." It centers around the painting you can see here, but will incorporate the works of many artists we have yet to meet. If you click on the link below the picture, you can learn more about it, and we hope you will share it with the artists you know. We want to meet them!

We need your help to spread the word to make this project a reality. Please share this blog, or the indiegogo link. On the indiegogo site, you can see a video of Mark and me talking about this film, and you'll even see a bit of our personal history.

Here we are! We have been working together on art and films for a long time, and we're still going strong. Please help us find emerging artists to submit their work for this new film, as well as arts supporters to get the fun perks on indiegogo.

What are  YOU  working on? How can we help you??

Personal Trainer Talks about Cancer Prevention

My friend, Blake Beckcom, owns Fitness Together, San Diego in Mission Hills.

Blake just wrote an article that really made an impact on me. A subject close to my heart - cancer prevention. My father died of a preventable cancer. My mother-in-law died of a preventable cancer. I know of children today who are struggling with preventable cancers. This has got to stop. Don't you agree? I want to share Blake's article with you.

Experts throughout the fitness community have long encouraged everyone to exercise more in order to live a healthy and fit lifestyle. Recently, the medical community has further supported the importance of encouraging adults to be more physically active, especially for individuals who have or are at high risk for life-threatening diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.1
It is more important than ever to revisit the importance of; being active and eating healthy in order to reduce the risk of diseases such as cancer, increasing fitness levels, and promoting healthy living and longevity.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), more than 572,000 Americans die of cancer each year, with 1/3 of the deaths linked to poor diet, physical inactivity and being overweight.2 The most important things you can do to help reduce cancer risk for you and your family include:  read more....

Why Talk about Marketing on a Health Blog?

We are all marketing all the time, whether we realize it or not. You dress in just the right outfit for the occasion, you use the words that are appropriate for the people you are talking to. We all do it. Everyone wants to fit in and be loved. (and not look stupid)

So, a health blog uses marketing and needs marketing just like anyone else. If I have something valuable to share, I hope it will be seen by more than my family.

I have a longtime friend who made a discovery of some marketing tools that can help people in any type of business. These are some of the same tools that I have been wishing for - a low cost way to hold online meetings, video emails, and other ways to connect with people in a genuine way. Be watching for my online Shaklee 180 parties!

If you have any type of home-based business, or small business, these tools could really help you find and connect with the people you are looking for. If you fit that description, take a minute and look at Gavin's Pure Leverage Review of this set of tools. He's really done his homework this time. (click on "Pure Leverage Review")

Do you have a blog that needs more attention? Tell me in the comments and I'll see if I can be of some assistance. I'm here for you. For your physical health, and for your financial health.

How Will the Sequester Affect You?

Are you worried about the Sequester? I wasn't even sure what it was until my friend told me how it would affect him.

My friend, Dan, (not his real name) is a mathematician who works for the Navy. He was told that if the sequester goes through, he will be working 20% less and getting paid 20% less. Wow. I'm thinking 20% less income will make a dent in his lifestyle.

I have said in previous posts that no matter what your line of work, it is a smart idea to have another stream of income that will continue if anything happens to your job. Now, more than ever, we need to learn about developing multiple streams of income.

Here's a video of Roger Barnett, talking about his search for the perfect company to help lots of people create extra income.

I am happy to be working with Roger to help others create multiple streams of income. Now this can happen even faster, with the new Shaklee 180 program. People can choose to get their supplements and weight loss products free, or build a business that could
go a long way towards protecting families from devastation due to unpredictable financial developments.

So, how will the sequester affect you? Will you have safeguards in place? You can start now. Please comment here and let me know how I can help you.

I Hate Flu Season!

I don't know about you, but I hate flu season! It's also the season of school pageants, choir concerts, Christmas plays, and lots of other opportunities to be exposed to everyone else's germs. Not to mention the hassle of cast members getting sick or losing their voice right before a performance. As a director and a performer, I always do my best to prevent colds and flu before they cause a problem for me and everyone around me.

I found this article by Dr. Jamie McManus, MD about how to outsmart those germs and bacteria.

Start Early to Stay Well this Winter

Posted by Dr. Jamie McManus on Oct 5, 2012 in Health

Why is it that we have smartphones but still no cure for colds and flu? It’s because we’re dealing with smart viruses. Any one of dozens of viruses can infect you — and before you know it, you are coughing, sneezing, and sniffling. We only have immunity to those rhinoviruses that we’ve been infected with already— so our immune system needs to be able to optimally react to the various cold or flu germs that can, and will, come our way! And each year, the common flu virus is different from the previous year. Why? Because the influenza viruses are constantly morphing. So, let’s talk about strategies to help you and your family stay as healthy as possible this winter!

Talk to your doctor about immunizations. I encourage everyone to talk to their doctor about whether or not getting a flu vaccine and/or a pneumonia vaccine is a good idea—especially if you or a family member fall into those groups most at risk.

Wash your hands frequently. This remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and your family from colds and flu. Use plain old soap and water. Lather, rinse, and repeat throughout the day—especially after you’ve touched door handles or been around anyone who is ill.

Eat a healthy diet, full of antioxidants and immune supporting nutrients.  This means both avoiding the high fat, often fried, and usually unhealthy fast foods, and committing to eating at least FIVE servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day! I personally take 500 mg vitamin C daily through the cold and flu season—and double that if I am feeling run-down or have been around someone with a cold!

Get plenty of rest. Inadequate sleep negatively impacts your immune response.  If you have school-age children, make it a priority for them to get at least nine hours of sleep each night. Moms and dads, you should strive for seven to eight hours yourself!

Try a natural approach. Scientific research has led to the discovery of a combination of plant extracts that naturally boost the body’s own production of interferon, a component of the immune system that helps fight off viruses. Other plant compounds found in elderberry and echinacea extracts can help too. Take these when you feel the first sign of something coming on, and continue taking them for about a week as needed.

Thank you, Dr. Jamie!  So there you have it - let's "just say no" to colds and flu this season. That's what I say.
If you would like to find some natural immune boosters available online, you can click on the catalog on the right side of this page. Search for "Nutriferon," "Defend & Resist Complex," "Sustained release Vita-C," and "Garlic Complex." You can also watch videos about interferon and lots more there.

A Wake-Up Story, sharing Healthy Child, Healthy World's Video

Healthy Child, Healthy World is an organization that I endorse wholeheartedly. Here is their mission:

This video describes the differences in the world of children today, compared to that of our own childhood. Please watch this and share with anyone you know who has children, or grandchildren, or teaches children. They need us to protect them!

If you want to do something to change the situation, leave a comment and I will guide you to resources. Let's make the world a better place.
