As an artist I know how hard it is to create when I do not feel good, let alone when I am weakened and distracted by ill health. So, I have high respect for artists who overcome distress to create masterpieces. But, ill health has sometimes been romanticized as a prerequisite to greatness. Actually, when we are healthy we think better, have the strength to manipulate our materials better and have the stamina for longer periods of productivity. The added years of life derived from good health gives more time to produce more, provided those years are of quality health.
Think of all the artists who could be creating masterpieces but are smothering under bad health, are overweight, don't have the energy, don't feel good and sure don't want to be creative.
What If You Could Be Better?
"Talent" is not the main requirement; it's a lot of hard work getting good at something in order to create the masterpiece. The amount and quality of one's work is proportionate to their physical, mental and spiritual well being.
It could happen. You could have better health which could free you to even believe a masterpiece is inside you.
Most Diseases Are Preventable
Name three of the most common diseases: heart disease, cancer and diabetes. All of these are on a sharp increase. Yet, heart disease is 80% preventable, cancer is 60% preventable, and diabetes is more than 90% preventable.
So, chances are high that you COULD avoid dying from any of these three killers. Why do we let ourselves get these? Well, 70% of all doctor visits are due to nutritional and lifestyle related causes.
The average American eats half their meals away from home, relinquishing nutritional choices and quality control to places which depend on rotating the maximum number of customers through their tables as quickly as possible in order to make a profit. However, the consumption of nutrition-drained, chemical additive-rich foods is on the rise even in our homes. The USDA has been tracking the declines in nutrient value of many crops since the 1950's. Chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, early harvesting, and long distance shipping all contribute to us turning our noses up to fruits and vegetables.
1. Supplement depleted food. (But don't take just any old pill)
On top of processed foods we consume more and more soft drinks which assault our bodies with huge amounts of sodium and sugar, or, worse, artificial sweeteners which decrease our cognitive functions.
No wonder masterpieces aren't getting produced!
2. Drink pure water and real juices. (Hey! Juice! That's from fruits and vegetables, right?)
The typical fast food meal gives you approximately 75% of the maximum daily allowance of calories, 94% the maximum daily allowance of fat, 70% the maximum daily allowance of sodium, plus the abundant preservatives and processing chemicals the food needs in order to keep on the shelves indefinitely.
You know how you feel "full and satisfied" after that fast food meal? Yeah, full of what? Will the other meals of the day cover just the stuff that one left out?
3. Eat processed, or fast food less than once a week. (OR, not at ALL!)
One interesting result of this non-nutritional lifestyle is the shocking rise in being overweight and obese, especially among children. But, what would you expect when at least 1 fast food meal per week is standard in the lives of approximately 85% of American kids? Yeah, right. "Once a week."
"How important is the weight loss thing," we ask in our best "research" voice. Here are a few consequences of being overweight to consider: stroke, dyslipidemia, hypertension, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease, coronary heart disease, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and some cancers. And all of those could also include "complications."
4. Lose Weight (And don't gain it back!)

Thankfully, in many places, organic produce is becoming more in demand and thus profitable for grocery stores to carry. So, go demand (after you ask nicely several times) that your grocery store get truly organic, locally grown food, or you'll go over to that great store which already does.
